CPR Saves K9

Thanks to CPR and some quick thinking, Officer Josh Halsey saved his partner, but he says when he saw him lying motionless it was one of the scariest moments of his life. “I came up to him and when I grabbed him he just flopped.”

Halsey’s partner is a 70 lb. German shepherd named Samo. "Samon is a very loving dog," said Halsey. “I could take him to anyone and he would just like to be loved.”

When not patrolling the streets of Ligonier, Samo plays with a tennis ball to stay active, but that ball would come close to killing him. Fortunately for Halsey, he did not lose Samo. The tennis ball had become lodged in his throat! Halsey performed CPR and removed the ball. Samo began to breathe. Halsey took Samon to his veterinarian and he was found to be totally recovered. Chief Bryan Shearer said he couldn’t believe what happened, “it was a partner saving a partner”.
