11/04/08

The 3 year old Citrus Heights Police Department, one of the areas youngest, is following a well worn path in adding a K9 unit. The Department sees police dogs as a good investment even in an era of tight bugets.

With three expierenced dogs on the street and another in training, continued development of the teams is a priority of the Department. The teams are trained for handler protection, drug detection and missing person tracking.

Lt. Ray Bechler, the K9 unit commander, said police departments consider K9 Teams too valuable to cut and the department will add more units in th future.
